People love birds. You can see this every where. Unfortunately, some species are quite capable of making a nuisance of themselves. Pigeons, Sparrows, Starlings, Seagulls and Canada Geese are the most common. There are other species as well that are not as common, such as Woodpeckers. There are multiple management options available. Most of these revolve around exclusion. The use of high quality netting, spike systems and wire systems are some of the devices that are used. What determines the type of system is the amount of "pressure" at the site. For example, a high pressure site would be an area that the birds are nesting. This is home, they are rearing their young here and were probably raised here themselves. They will fight hard to get this area back. This is like you coming home and finding the locks changed on your house. A site like this would most likely require net. Some other examples of options would be flock reduction and harassment. Flock reduction is usually accomplished by trapping or shooting. It can also be by a chemical means such as Avitrol, ALLPEST does not use toxicants for birds under most circumstances. We have found the most effective method to be trapping. Another option is harassment. This is accomplished using a variety of methods. Pyrotechnics, ultra sonic devices, recordings of distress calls and scary eye balloons are just some of the devices that have been employed. All with varying degrees of success. Some species, such as Canada Geese respond well to dogs. At one account we service, the dog that works that facility has achieved celebrity status. Earning himself his very own picture I.D. Bird damage can manifest itself in many forms. Nesting material can build up and cause a fire in electric signs and other machinery. Not to mention the multitude of nasty organisms that harbor and spread disease. There are at least 16 diseases associated with pest birds. And that does not include the parasites like Ticks, Fleas and Mites! Ventilation systems can be blocked as well. Food handlers had better be aware of the many problems caused by our feathered friends. One of the more overlooked aspects of bird damage is the damage to the company image. How does it reflect on say, a restaurant when it has bird droppings running down the sign? You probably would wonder about the sanitation inside. ALLPEST has the experience and the equipment to handle any bird problem. Contact us for a free quote.
